phpBB Link Spam Protection
phpBB Link Spam Protection (LSP) was developed for use on the Black Ops Affiliated forums, which were run by a friend. They were taking on a lot of spam, and needed a way to control it.
LSP prevents link spam by checking the URL of new registrations and profile updates. It can also check the domain name of an e-mail address to verify it exists (using DNS).
If it detects a spam registration, it can perform a number of actions based on how it is configured.
LSP is fully configurable form the Administration Control Panel, and provides options for new registrations and profile updates. See the screen shot to the right.
Features
Below are some of the features of LSP.
- E-Mail reports of any action taken by LSP. Multiple addresses supported.
- Email DNS verification: LSP will do a DNS lookup on the domain name provided in the e-mail address to verify it is valid.
- Keyword matching of URL addresses to determine spam.
New Registrations, you can:
- Specify to allow registration, allow registration removing the URL, or refuse registration.
- Ban the offending IP address.
Profile updates, you can:
- Specify to allow update, allow update removing the URL, ban the user, or delete the user.
- Ban the offending IP address.
- Only perform the above actions if the user has made less than x posts.
